Welcome to Fountain Hills Piano

We are the piano teaching team of Heather Baldwin and Dr. Michael Veech. Our passion is developing students into confident, skilled, lifelong musicians, who find joy in playing the piano and pride in sharing their music with others.

Over the past 14 years, we have taught countless children, teens and adults in Fountain Hills and Scottsdale. We would welcome the opportunity to serve you and your family.

“My son has been with Heather Baldwin and Dr. Michael Veech for about 10 years. He started with no music experience; today, he plays the 18-page Chopin Ballade No. 1 and wants to continue studying piano in college. If you’re looking for a musical home for your child, these are your teachers.” –Mike N., parent

How We Work

Typically, students begin their study with Heather and transition to Dr. Veech at around the mid-intermediate level. Heather is passionate about the early years of music education and specializes in nurturing students through the beginning stages of piano. As students progress into the intermediate levels, we work cooperatively with families to evaluate the right timing for a transition to Dr. Veech, who is exceptional at honing the skills of intermediate and advanced piano students.

Together, Heather Baldwin and Dr. Michael Veech are known for their musical excellence, their ability to grow students of all ages from novices into highly skilled pianists, and for their tireless dedication to those in their charge.

“Heather Baldwin and Dr. Michael Veech make a wonderful team! Heather’s gentle encouragement and positive approach provided our daughters with solid foundational skills and helped them develop a love for piano. Dr. Veech now guides our children as they develop a deeper understanding and mastery of the piano and music theory. We are thrilled with what our kids have accomplished under their tutelage and give them our highest recommendation!” –Julie B., parent

Arizona Study Program

Fountain Hills Piano offers participation in the Arizona Study Program (ASP) as an option to students. ASP is a 12-year graded course of music study developed by the Arizona State Music Teachers Association to provide for the development of repertoire, technique and theory. It gives students a universal, concrete measure of their progress with tangible awards to celebrate and mark their achievement. The Arizona Study Program exam consists of three elements:

Repertoire

3 - 4 memorized pieces, one from each of the four main musical periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern).

Technique

Technique (scales, arpeggios, cadences, etc.) as defined for the ASP level at which the student will be examined.

Theory

A written theory exam covering the material learned in the theory workbook that matches a student’s ASP level.
